Trigeminal Neuralgia

Trigeminal neuralgia is a condition causing facial pain, usually it is unilateral, right sided or left sided, characterised by sharp, electric shock like pain, which will be having trigger points. Pain lasts for few seconds. Pain is aggravated by chewing, talking, brushing teeth, shaving etc. Initially the condition can be managed with medications.
We need to rule out vascular loop causing compression near brainstem with MRI scan. In medically resistant cases patients require Microvascular decompression of 5th nerve.
Other conditions are Hemifacial spasms, glosso pharyngeal neuralgia etc
